BREAKING: Georgia Tech Basketball Lands Top-50 2025 Recruit Akai Fleming (2024)

Georgia Tech has been rolling in recruiting under Damon Stoudamire and they just landed a top-50 recruit for the 2025 class.

Akai Fleming (Osborne High School, Marietta, GA) comitted to the Yellow Jackets this morning, giving them their second commitment of the 2025 class.

This is a big win for Stoudamire. He has the nation's No. 13 recruiting class for 2024 and is starting to build out a strong 2025 class with Fleming and forward Brandon Stores.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Fleming (6'4 180 LBS) is the No. 46 player in the country, the No. 6 shooting guard in the country, and the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia. He held other offers from Alabama, Georgia, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kansas State, LSU, and SMU.

Georgia Tech right now ranks 13th in the country on 247Sports for the class of 2024 and that would be the highest-ranked class for Georgia Tech since 2012, when they ranked 10th.

The only teams in the ACC that rank higher than Georgia Tech are Duke (1st overall), North Carolina (7th), and Miami (12th). That is impressive and Stoudamire hopes to that this class can be the start of the turnaround for Georgia Tech.

Jaeden Mustaf is ranked No. 48 overall in the 247Sports composite ranking, and No. 6 at his position. He earned all-state honors last season at Carmel Christian School, leading the Cougars to a 28-4 record and a berth in the state championship game. He averaged 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He began his prep career at legendary DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., where his father attended. There, he averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a sophom*ore. He also enjoyed a standout summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit in 2023 and was named MVP of the 2022 Adidas 3SSB 17U Championship.

Ranked No. 31 among centers and No. 182 overall in the 247Sports composite ranking, Cole Kirouac attended North Forsyth High School in Cumming, where he was named honorable mention all-state and also to the 6A Region 8 all-region team for his play throughout the 2022-23 season. Kirouac made the 6A Region 8 all-tournament team for his performance in the postseason and was selected to play in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-star game after the season. For the 2022-23 season, he averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots per game. He played AAU ball for the Atlanta Xpress and finished fifth in rebounding on the UA Next Circuit in 2023 (8.2 RPG).

Four-star forward Darrion Sutton has committed to Georgia Tech but has not signed. He could end up being the best player from the 2024 class.

Here is ascouting reporton Sutton courtesy of On3 Sports Jamie Shaw:

“Darrion Sutton is a lengthy lefty. The ball skills are intriguing. Listed at 6-8, he is comfortable one the ball and capable of making different reads at multiple levels in the half court. You like the defensive upside with his length and his athletic fluidity, especially in the passing lanes. He needs to continue developing the jump shot, become a threat from the outside. A connecting forward who can fill in the gaps on a team.”

According to the 247Sports Composite, Doryan Onwuchekwa is the No. 111 player in the country, the No. 19 center, and the No. 7 player in the state of Texas.

Here is a scouting report on Onwuchekwa courtesy of On3 analyst Jamie Shaw:

“Doryan Onwuchekwa has a big frame and broad shoulders with solid length. Has good hands – albeit small – and touch with consistent range. Can stretch the floor out to beyond the arc, off the catch, and he puts it on the deck under control. He can drift and get too perimeter-oriented at times. When he plays close to the basket, he is a good area rebounder and a good outlet passer. He has range on catch-and-shoot threes. Has some upside to slide his feet on defense. He is still figuring out his game, but the consistency continues to become more and more frequent."

The on-court results will need to follow, but Damon Stoudamire and Georgia Tech are hot on the recuriting trail for 2025 and 2024
